Prostate cancer is the most prevalent cancer among males in Ireland. Each year, approximately 4,000 men are diagnosed with the disease. What many don’t realise is that a significant proportion of men who receive a cancer diagnosis, and particularly those who undergo prostate cancer treatment, will experience some degree of urinary incontinence, such as loss of bladder control and involuntary leaks.
To further understand how this issue is affecting people, phs commissioned research into male urinary incontinence in the Republic of Ireland (ROI). This was created in association with Irish Cancer Society (ICS) with support from Irish Men’s Shed Association.
The research uncovered a lack of awareness and understanding about the issue among both men and women across Ireland, including an inadequate provision of essential toilet facilities like sanitary bins and product vending machines.
